Quanmax will zum PC-Amazon werden

Der 400 Millionen € schwere Computerhersteller Quanmax (Dell, Sony, Acer und Apple, HP) will demnächst abermals zuschlagen: Nach Chiligreen und Gericom sollen zwei weitere Computerfirmen übernommen werden, bestätigt Quanmax-Chef Hannes Niederhauser dem Wirtschafts­Blatt.

image Um welche es sich dabei handelt, verrät er aber noch nicht. Nur so viel: Es seien keine österreichischen Unternehmen und sie sind in der Größenordnung von Gericom. Fujitsu Siemens sei zwar „interessant“, aber zu groß. Niederhauser: „Wenn die Firma zerschlagen wird, wollen wir die Brösel, die dabei abfallen, aber schon haben.“

Der Masterplan von Quanmax sieht so aus: Nach den Zukäufen bleiben die Marken bestehen, der Einkauf wird zusammengelegt, neue Nischen geschaffen. Das sind z. B. eine „Herren-und Damenvariante“ des Apple McAir, einen PC mit Swarovski-Steinen oder ein Notebook für Architekten, dessen Kanten man auch als Lineal verwenden kann.

Linux computer fits in USB key

A start-up located in the French Alps near Grenoble is readying a tiny ARM-based Linux single-board computer (SBC) in a USB key form-factor. Calao, based in Sant Martin le Vinoux, is also readying a tiny Linux SBC designed to plug into QIL (quad in-line) IC sockets.

Quanmax KEEX-4020: a 3.5-inch SBC based on the high-performance Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor

Quanmax has unveiled its latest 3.5-inch embedded computing platform, the KEEX-4020. This compact SBC supports the high performance Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor with an Intel® 945GME /ICH7-M chipset. The KEEX-4020 is designed for industries requiring excellent performance with a small footprint, such as mobile PC’s, small Panel PC’s and thin client applications. These industries will not only benefit from the increased computing power and better performance-per-watt that the KEEX-4020 offers, but also from its advanced graphic performance.

image Besides being based on Intel’s multi-core technology, the KEEX-4020 was designed with a wide range of I/O features. These include support for up to 2GB of high-speed DDR2 memory to meet the needs of high-end applications, a SATA port, a CompactFlash socket, a Fast Ethernet port, six USB 2.0 ports, two serial ports, and AC 97" Audio. The integrated graphics controller supports 18-bit dual channel LVDS and dual displays. A PCI Express x 4 interface completes expansion capabilities and support for a PS/2 keyboard and mouse are also provided. The design of the KEEX-4020 fulfills the needs of a host of new applications that prior to now have not been possible due to size constraints.
